Nice fellow, William, added a comment to the last Apple Computer Shenanigans-post of yesterday. He’s been studying the Big Apple 15+ years (give or take a year). Very helpful in many ways because now we have identified yet another problem.
William: “As for the real issue: why in Hades Safari would lose it’s mind? … But OS/X has a feature called “Permissions”. And if a file’s permissions (rarely) get corrupted on the hard drive, maybe the computer thinks you don’t have the right to read that file. OS/X gets REALLY stubborn about Permissions, it’s a security issue. That’s aside from the file itself getting zorked, of course…You can Repair Permissions by running Disk Utility. It’s in Applications/Utilities. The file you’re looking for is: Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist.”
We were working on “Permissions Repair” in the manner described above and WHAM! In the Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist search, we found that SAFARI folder was missing. In its place was “Safari old.” Suze and I didn’t know what to make of it. “Wait!” said Suze, “I remember it now.”
During the past couple weeks one of those Apple Advisors had her create that Safari folder or rename it to “Safari old.” She remembered most of the incident, but couldn’t remember where the original Safari folder went. We took a peek in the “Safari old” folder and it holds about 8 items. We’re not going to mess with it right now. Neither one of us is up to it.
Guess AppTech forgot to tell her to undo the switcheroo, but thanks to William, we know it’s missing!
Hey, let’s all give a shout out to William … Way to Go William! Basket of figs before summer’s end.
Goodnight folks, thanks for visiting, but please just take a second to click on our Charity Water. There’s more to life than Apple Computer BS.
